being booooring

sorry to be so dull and absent. Had to cart Frank off to hospital by ambulance again this morning and there’s no wi-fi at the local hospital. Thinks he’ll be okay but since the last round of chemo in prep for his transplant he’s been a very very sick boy. More later, when words come more easily.

Sunday, two days before the hospital saga begins anew

there’s some stuff, six mgs of it, Frank has to get via injection every day for a week after this next round of chemo. Eleven, count them ELEVEN thousand dollars per shot! Can anyone guess how fast we’d be homeless if we weren’t insured? He’s had three of those injections so far. This system is truly terrifying.
Have successfully fought off death by stomach flu again this weekend, so am very proud of self. Also, because I seem to have landed a pretty nice (extremely part time) job, teaching one class a week at the local art school. If they like me, and if the economy picks up, it could grow into a bigger job but we’ll see.  We’ll start out with the basics (cone 5 stoneware, Raku, pit) and go from there. Am going to make a few nice glazes for them — they really need some. The commercial stuff is paint by numbers and I just can’t see why anyone would use them — hideous crap, those glazes, unless endlessly played with, and who has the time for that? The people there seem to be extremely nice, enthusiastic, devoted to their arts, and mostly, pretty young which is good for me because I can get them to teach me all kinds of techno stuff. I get the feeling they’re into getting an experienced pottery hand in their team, which will be good for all of us. Nice to be appreciated, and to be able to use the skills and knowledge gleaned over a lifetime, and to use them for people who really want them, and to have the privilege of living in art. Always makes me wonder how many people there are out there with vast stores of knowledge and skills no one is tapping. They might be too busy paying eleven thousand dollars per injection to stay alive, or out there not being able to.
